Autumn Dancer Riding Academy LLC
provides
hippotherapy and therapeutic riding lessons for children who are working through difficulties related to injury, illness,
trauma, and other causes of handicaps or disabilities. Most children, two years and older, are appropriate to utilize the
motion of the horse to achieve greater strength, balance, motor skills, and sensory integration.
THERAPEUTIC RIDING
AND HIPPOTHERAPY
What is the difference?
THERAPEUTIC RIDING is the instruction of an individual, with
a disability or handicap, to ride a horse, with or without modifications to the saddle or the environment. Children with limited
strength, endurance, coordination, posture, balance, and/or attention span are supported in the lesson to enable them to learn
the skills to ride a horse or pony. Singing, rhyming, numbers, colors, and games are incorporated into the lesson program
to add further enrichment for the rider.
HIPPOTHERAPY uses a horse's movement, in addition to the strategies
of a physical, occupational, or speech therapist, to achieve goals set by those medical professionals. Games, songs, verbal,
and visual skills are also incorporated into the program to further develop the child's communication skills, learning,
and enjoyment of the therapy session.
Hippotherapy can some times be reimbursed by the rider's health insurance.
A physician's referral may be required. All physical therapy goals are set to achieve functional needs and desires of
the family and the rider.
